GC for PHD Holder
Published Feb 24,2023

Hi,
Hope you are doing well. I would really appreciate it if you could please advise which GC visa category is most suitable for my case:
I am an Iranian national, citizen of both Australia & Canada, holder of PHD from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia and I live and work in Montreal Canada since May 2018. I got my PhD in Civil Engineering field with only one article. I work for ALSTOM company, one of the outstanding international companies with many offices & factories across North America and all over the world making high technology Trains… I am working as Project Planning Manager with over 23 years’ work experience and now actively applying same role in US.
With above personal data, am I eligible to apply the GC and what category? I had a quick search on the website, and it seems EB-1 C is the best option to go with. Any advice? many thanks
Kind Regards
Sam Rad

Hi Sam,
EB1C requires sponsorship of your employer – you would need to discuss the possibility of them sponsoring your green card (meaning, also, them hiring a lawyer to prepare your petition). On this website we deal with self-sponsored categories only, which are EB1A and EB2-NIW. You can start from reading our free eBook (through the link below) and figure out if you can assemble a compelling case based on the relevant credentials. From the information you provided here it is not obvious if you should apply under either of these categories, but feel free to ask any questions in this thread, after you read the eBook. https://www.greencardforphd.com/free-ebook
Just as a side note, is there any benefit for you, as a Canadian citizen, to obtain a green card instead of a non-immigrant visa? Do you plan to eventually get the U.S. citizenship with all the citizenship-based tax liabilities that it comes with?

Many thanks for your advice, yes my target is to become a US citizen 🙂 but I don’t know what is the quickest and easiest way to get the Green Card.
There is no quick and easy way, unfortunately (besides the Diversity Visa Lottery)…
