EB1A chances

Published Jul 7,2022 By DK

Hello,

I am a fourth year PhD Candidate in a top US university and would like to understand my chances applying for green card in EB1A category. My country of birth is India.

I have around 60 citations, have reviewed for journals and conferences about 50 times and have 9 journal publications (4 first authored). What do you think are my chances for EB1A approval.

I also have a possible tenure track assistant professor job in the pipeline in the US upon graduation. Does it make sense to apply under EB1B instead?

Hello,

Your citation count could be the main obstacle for a successful EB1A application. However, the fact that you have done multiple reviews and that you are the first author in several publications is very good, so you just have to accumulate more citations and get your PhD title.

EB1B is sponsored by an employer, so it makes sense to talk to them about it, you cannot file it yourself, especially before you have secured a tenure track position.
