So thankful

Published Jun 13,2020 By Maria J.

Like many other postdocs/grad students, paying an attorney 6K was just not a viable option. I knew I had a strong case for my EB2-NIW, but I just needed a little guidance and someone to consult to along the process. I got the NIW DIY package extremely hesitant and not knowing if it would be worth it, but I thought I had nothing to lose by trying. The package was absolutely everything I needed, with forms up to date, a filled out example, and a guide with useful information. From the moment I got it and scanned through it I was confident I could do it myself. Us scientists have a skill to identify patterns, learn techniques, and take it from there. Writing your own NIW application is no different from a grant, or something like a scientific autobiography. It was actually quite an insightful process, and demanded tremendous introspection into my professional career and the path I have been carving in my field of expertise the past 10 years.

I am incredibly thankful to having come across this resource, GC for PhD has done so much for my future and my career in the US. It is an incredible amount of work on our end as self petitioners, but the starting materials is truly all you need, and they are also extremely helpful in aswering questions. Throughout my process, I corresponded via e-mail with them, and they were fantastic at responding (always within 24-48 hrs) my specific questions on forms and the application in general. (I apologize, I ran out of space in my original comment.) I wanted to just finish up by saying thank you for providing the encouragement and professional guidance needed through this intense and cumbersome process. Having the support and being able to consult brief questions along the way with something as simple as an email truly made a difference to me.
I believe this team provides much more than just a DIY package. They showed genuine care, and I will be forever thankful to them.

For interest, I submitted my I-140 NIW and I-485 concurrently, on Mar 6, 2019. I had My NIW petition was approved with NO RFE on May 13, 2020. My i-485 is still pending but I am sure will be accepted soon.

I think after reading into other cases I felt confident I could build my case better than any lawyer : ) My background: Basic/clinical scientist, with BS in Biochemistry from foreign country, PhD in Bioenergetics and 3 years of postdoc experience both in US (I have been here for 8 years, on F1, OPT, and then H1B visa). At time of application, I had 16 publications, 5 first-authored, citations>350, h index 9, 22 scientific awards, proven reviewer for several journals. I presented 11 letters of recommendation (from Deans, President of a Society, Distinguished Professors, Directors of Institutes, and mentors from Universities across 7 different states), and 3 offers of postdoc I rejected. I encourage anyone, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF FIRST. AMD THE WORLD WILL FOLLOW.
