I have Ph.D. with 8 years experience in India and currently working as Associate Professor in University. Am I eligible to apply for Green Card in the USA? What is the suitable category for me to apply for GC? Kindly suggest/advise.

Hi Manu,

There are certain criteria that you have to satisfy in order to be eligible for the permanent residence. Please have a look at the two pages from this website (EB1A and EB2NIW categories)
http://www.greencardforphd.com/eb1a/extraordinary-ability-eb1a-and-uscis-criteria
http://www.greencardforphd.com/eb2niw/eb2-national-interest-wavier-niw

Speaking of what category is more suitable, if you were born in India, then there is an important difference in these categories: the EB2NIW is currently backlogged and, if your petition is approved, you will have to wait several years until you can apply for the green card. Currently, the waiting time is 9 years (see the link below). So, effectively, the only option for you in EB1A.
