Applying for a CPT while having a pending I-140

Published May 9,2020 By Hamid

Hello,

I am a Ph.D. student and I have a pending 1-140 application while I have not applied for I-485 yet. I am going to apply for internship positions for which I need to apply for a CPT. I am wondering if I need to renew my I-140 which will be expired in two years from now! I am asking it because the lawyer who filed my I-140 application told me that I need to do so. In the meantime, international student service (ISS) of my university says there is no need to do so since I have not gone out of my F-1 status. Would you please help me out with this?

Regards,

I do not see why your I-140 would expire. There are probably some details I am not aware of. What category did you apply for and who is sponsoring you? When does your F-1 status expire?
