Should I extend I-20 while there is a pending I-485?

Published Apr 7,2023 By Chapa Songh

I am a PhD student, and my I20 expires in May, 2023.
I plan to graduate in this summer (August) 2023.
My wife and I have applied for I-485, and I received my EAD.
Should I extend my I-20 to continue my studies?
If I do so, can this negatively affect my I-485 application?
If so, what other options do I have?
If I extend my I20, will be I able to later apply for OPT in case the I-485 is denied?

You need to speak with your university first, because you may not be eligible for I-20 extension when I-485 is pending. Otherwise, I-20 extension should not affect your I-485 application. In general, I am not sure I-20 is needed if you already obtained EAD… Do I understand correctly that your I-140 has been approved already and your priority date is current?
