Today while browsing for green card application in the EB1A category, I came across your website. First of all thank you for collating very useful information and maintaining this wonderful blog. Currently I am working as a post doc in material science department. My PhD is not from USA. However, I have 10 publications and have citations close to 225. Can I apply for GC in the EB1A category. I would be grateful if you can give your comments.
Your credentials look good. But please remember that to satisfy for the requirements for EB1A category, just showing publications and citations would not be sufficient. You would need to satisfy at least 3 of 10 requirements set by USCIS. You would also need to have evidence that shows that you are on the top of your field and you are considered unique. Most Phds have unique qualifications and can satisfy this criteria. It also helps if you see some example petition packets.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck

Hi,
I hold a Bachelors in Economics and 2 Masters (MBA & MS Accounting) from US and have been living in the US for 10 years now. I have been having a hard time with a job because of my F1 status. Since I hold advanced degrees in the business field is it possible for me to self-petition for GC? What category would I have a best qualifying chance under if possible? Also if you are volunteering in my field (accountant) can that experience help in anyway for filing? I would really like some help, thanks!
EB1A and EB2 NIW are the two self-petition categories. Please look through the USCIS criteria for these two categories. In addition to the advance degrees, you should also satisfy two more of the several criteria listed. This free ebook has more information on common question in the process.
If you are planning to apply while on an F1, you should be aware that you may find it hard to extend your F1 if you need to. This is because you have expressed an intent to immigrate while on a non-immigrant F1 visa. You can read more about this at this link.
