Which category should I apply in, EB1a/NIW?

Question:
I am a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering (minor in Computer Science). Can you help me to decide which category (EB1A or EB2-NIW) would be a good fit for me?
I would appreciate if you could look at my short biodata.
Answer:
We took a look at your short biography. NIW could be an appropriate category for you to apply. However a word of caution, you do not have several citations therefore you would have to offset this by obtaining several recommendation letters. you would need recommendation letters from people using your techniques suggesting that your work is useful in the national interest. You would also need letters from independent experts in your field.
Please take a look at the example petition and suggestions about and I love you on our website.
If you have further questions about Albert example petition on regarding your assessment please feel free to contact us.

Hi,
I am a Fulbright scholar doing a PhD in the US (on a J-1 with 212e home residency condition). I specialize in energy policy and grid resilience (my specific research on grid resilience has very limited research done, making my research stand out in the field) and will graduate in fall 2023. Before that, I am thinking of applying for a EB2-NIW (and get a waiver later before applying for a green card).
Question – how many publications, citations, and years of work experience do you think might put me in a position to get potentially favorable outcome on my EB2-NIW application? I am sure there is no concrete number but I am trying to get a safe ballpark to see my profile is good enough and if I should even consider filing for EB2-NIW at all.
Getting the PhD degree and citation count in triple digits should improve your chances of producing a successful petition. For EB2-NIW the most important part is to show that your research is of a national importance. You may find useful reading USCIS manual on NIW, see Chapter D here: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-6-part-f-chapter-5
